Stéphane Richard, “number two” of French Orange telco, confirmed “launch soon” of Apple’s tablet device (iSlate, iPad or what so ever), and that it would have a webcam, nowhereelse.fr reports. Seems that it might come with a contract of that telco, by that reducing the price. Open question: Will it have a bundle of news (sites, paper journal) subscriptions, e.g. for special editions of sports magazines, news portals like wsj.com, bild.de, integration of reader reporter features… Time will tell – soon.
US translation by Techcrunch:France Télécom / Orange Exec Confirms Apple Tablet Is On The Way
paid:content:UK now reports that there was no confirmation:
But it was nothing of the sort, the Orange PR machine tells paidContent:UK: “A few comments taken out of context, then interpreted into English.”
A full statement emailed to us has further back-tracking: “These responses in no way reflect Orange’s confirmation of the existence of the rumoured device. The spokesperson was merely confirming that he is aware of the speculation surrounding a launch and that Orange would be delighted to have such a product were it ever to be available.”
Again, time will tell.
